Good monsoon rains in Pecos headwaters
After a historically low snowfall last winter, the headwaters of the Pecos River have received excellent rains during July.
Provisional data for the SNOTEL site at 11,120 feet in the Pecos headwaters show that accumulated precipitation for the water year (which began Oct. 1, 2017) has almost doubled this month. On July 1, the accumulated total was 7.4 inches. Today, July 25, the accumulated total is 14.6 inches.
The accumulated precipitation total for July 25 in water year 2017 was 25.5 inches, which included 2.9 inches of rainfall in July.
